Dear Friends of our Boys & Girls Club,
The past year, our Boys & Girls Clubs have faced a trial worse than the economic impact in the previous years. Our major funding agency has had financial issues and has had to decrease our funding by 64% this year, and we are anticipating the same decrease for the 2013 year as well until their financial issues have been resolved. Because of this drastic cut, our Club has an extremely tight budget this year. We are in need of your support to make sure our Club members have the same quality of programming that they have been accustomed to over the years and that our Club doors continue to stay open. Please consider supporting one or more Club members for 2012-2013 at a cost of $250 for each member.
Throughout the year, our clubs open their doors to over 2,400 youth, ages 6 to 18, in the Bryan/College Station area. Since 1959 the Boys & Girls Clubs in Bryan/College Station have provided a safe, nurturing environment for all young people, especially those who need us most. Today’s youth face greater challenges and stresses than ever before. Challenges such as making ends meet, a parent losing a job, health concerns and the drop-out rate along with crime, drugs and delinquency are just some issues our youth face. Without havens like the Boys & Girls Clubs, children like Jade have fewer opportunities to receive positive guidance and support.
“I had no role models to show me the way to a solid future. No one in my family had graduated high school. However, the Club has opened my eyes to the possibilities, and my teachers have continued to encourage me, and I now know that I will be going to college.”
– Jade, 2012 Youth of the Year.
Every member that walks through our club doors receives programming in the following core areas: the arts, health and life skills, education and career exploration, character and leadership development, and sports, fitness, and recreation. Your support of our It Just Takes One campaign will ensure that our youth will continue to receive the quality programming to help them succeed in life. By joining me in our It Just Takes One campaign, you will be supporting our club members by providing each youth with the tools they need to be successful citizens in our community and prosperous adults. You will be one person who can change the life of one of our youth. It Just Takes One to make a difference. We hope you will be One.
